Find a Replacement Screen for Samsung's Galaxy Nexus

Whether you've accidentally cracked your Samsung smartphone's screen or it's lost its brightness, it's often economical to replace it instead of buying a new phone. Spare parts, special tool kits, and screen repair kits are available for the Galaxy Nexus that can help you get it back in working order.

What parts are needed to replace a smartphone's screen?

Smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus have two components that go together to make their screens function. A touch digitizer screen sits on top of an LED display to create a high-definition touchscreen. The digitizer consists of two or more glass plates; special electronics sandwiched between them detect when your fingertip touches the digitizer. The LED screen consists of a dense grid of tiny diodes that light up each individual pixel of color on the display. Each of these parts has a cable that connects it to the Nexus' motherboard, and they snap into the front frame of the phone's case.

Samsung offers some options for replacement screen parts. For example, you can choose a Nexus 1515 L700 I9250 AMOLED LCD display and top glass touch-screen digitzer window lens glass assembly with or without a frame. You can also opt to replace only the top glass.

Are special tools required for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

Opening a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and disassembling it can require tools that aren't part of a typical household's toolkit. For the Nexus, you'll need a good set of Phillips screwdrivers suitable for eyeglasses or electronics and a couple of other utility tools for prying and handling small parts. Here's what you'll need:

  • Phillips #000 screwdriver.
  • Plastic spudger (pry tool).
  • Tweezers.
How do you replace the Galaxy Nexus' screen?
  1. Remove the back cover of the phone by prying it away at the divot next to the rear camera, then take out the battery.
  2. Remove the four screws on the inside of the back panel with a #000 Phillips screwdriver, then turn the phone over.
  3. Insert a plastic spudger between the outer frame and the screen and move it around the phone to separate it from the frame.
  4. Remove the screw at the bottom of the back of the phone, pull up the blue connector in the bottom right corner, and then pull back the bottom module.
  5. Remove the round, internal battery with tweezers.
  6. Pull the display connector from the motherboard as well as the USB connector, using tweezers.
  7. Remove the antenna, using tweezers, pull the top circuit board off, and then remove the bottom circuit board.
  8. Reassemble all of the removed parts in reverse order onto your Samsung Galaxy replacement screen.
