Ford Probe Pedals and Pads

The Ford Probe is a mid-size sport coupe with a liftback trunk and the option of a manual or automatic transmission. All models of the Probe have gas and brake pedals, and manual versions have an extra pedal for the clutch. Keeping these pedals in good condition is an important part of preserving the Probe in good condition and maintaining its safety and efficiency.

How do you replace the pedals on a Ford Probe?

All of the pedals of this car are attached to the frame under the electronics console by bolts and mounting hardware. The clutch and brake pedals are attached to a hardware assembly that must be removed as one piece before the pedals can be replaced. If you are only replacing the rubber pads, you do not need to remove the pedals. To replace the pedals, you will need a power drill with an angle attachment. The steps are listed below:

  1. Use a drill with an angle attachment to loosen the bolts securing the pedals to the floor under the electronics console.
  2. Remove the pedals and mounting hardware from the floor of the vehicle.
  3. Loosen the bolts holding the pedals to the mounting hardware and then dismantle the assembly.
  4. Remove the worn-out rubber pads from the pedals and then put the new ones on by wrapping the edges of the pads around the sides of the pedals.
  5. Reassemble the mounting hardware with the new pedals and then bolt them to the floor of the Probe under the electronics console.
How often should the pads be replaced?

Rubber pads provide a cushion for your feet as well as a non-slip surface to make braking, accelerating, and engaging the clutch easier and more reliable. Because they are used every time you drive your car, they need to be replaced on a regular basis. If the pads are damaged, worn-out, or missing, new pads should immediately be installed. Under normal circumstances, rubber pads should be replaced every 20,000 to 30,000 miles or 2 to 3 years, depending on how often you drive your car.

How do these products impact the Ford Probe’s performance?

Replacing these parts when they become damaged helps to keep your Probe responsive to your movements and safe on the road. The braking and clutch pedals are especially important for safe and efficient driving. When these pedals and pads are in good condition, they help you avoid damaging your transmission and causing your car to stall out.

Are pedals and pads available for all Ford Probe models?

There are products for all model years of the Probe. Replacing damaged pedals and pads with Original Equipment Manufacturers’ parts helps to restore your Probe to its factory condition. Many products are compatible with multiple model years of the Probe. They are designed to look and function exactly like the original items.
