Ford F1 Manual Transmission Parts

A manual transmission of Ford, also known as a manual gearbox, is a type of gear that uses a clutch activated by a foot pedal to change the gears of the truck. Usually, the conventional gear is a five-speed stick, and some have a six-speed stick. Unlike automatic transmission, the manual transmission requires a manual handling of the gear stick by the driver to choose the appropriate speed.

What are the parts of a manual gear system?

The main components of the Ford Ranger transmission are the disc plate, the pressure plate, the flywheel, throw-out bearing, and the diaphragm spring. There are also the clutch plate, the clutch cover, pins, cushioning spring, release fork, and many other small components.

What are some indicators of manual transmission problems?

There are some indications that your manual shift may be worn-out:

  • Strange sounds, like grinding
  • Transmission jumps into neutral position
  • Difficulty in shifting gears
  • Stick stuck on one gear
  • Truck cant go into the chosen gear
  • Leaking oil
Why do manual transmission problems arise?

Problems with manual gears spring from high mileage of the truck, abuse of the gear component, or lack of maintenance may all cause issues with the manual transmission of a Ford F1.

What is manual-gear fluid?

It is an oil using a base oil and additives that reduce wear, scoring, and prevent the components from undergoing thermal oxidation. The different types of oils used are motor oil, hypoid-gear oil, and automatic fluid. It lubricates the hypoid gears in the manual transmission of the Ford.

How can you remove your Ford F1 gears?

The process of removing your gears is not as hard as it seems. Lift the vehicle with a floor-jack support until it is stabilized. Disconnect all electrical components and remove the U-joint on the output shaft. Use a piece of old cloth to soak up the dripping liquid. Loosen the shift links and cables. Place the jack under the transmission and with a socket wrench remove the support bolt, the rear-support insulator, and the cross-member. Use a jack stand to move the transmission jack towards the rear part of the vehicle.

While it is not impossible to put the transmission on your own, it can be a tough task due to the weight of the piece. In this case, you will need another person to help you hold the system in place until you put it in the case.
