Jeep Wrangler Wheel Hubs and Bearings

Jeep Wranglers were introduced in 1986 and continue to be made by the Jeep division of Chrysler. The off-road vehicle has gone through four different generations and a variety of trim models and editions, including Rubicon, Sahara, Sport, and 4-door, long-wheelbase Unlimited. CJ ("civilian Jeep") four-wheel drive trucks made by Chryslers Jeep division up until 1987 had leaf-spring suspension and spindle bearings. In 1987, the off-road vehicle received a front axle redesign, including sealed unit bearings that were also used on 1997-2006 TJs. Spindle bearings required the driver to exit the Jeep for front axle engagement while sealed unit bearings do not. Older bearings, such as front spindle bearings, can also be disassembled and cleaned, but sealed unit bearings are factory-sealed in a single modular assembly and are intended to be replaced.

Original equipment specifications for Jeeps made between 1987 and 2006 differ from JK editions manufactured after 2007. Wranglers made up until 2006, including TJs, have OEM wheel sizes ranging between 15 inches and 16 inches, with 5- by 4.5-inch lug or bolt patterns. JK Wranglers made after 2007 have 17- to 18-inch wheel sizes and 5- by 5-inch lug or bolt patterns. The hub and center bore for all Jeep Wranglers is 71.5 millimeters, so owners should ensure hub assembly fits will match this dimension.

A number of original equipment manufacturers (OEM) as well as factory stock offer ABS hub assemblies for Jeep Wrangler. ABS assemblies will vary depending on year and trim edition of Jeep, including Unlimited, Sahara, and Rubicon. ABS hub assemblies include wheel speed sensors and connectors to the ABS braking system as well as hubs and sealed bearings.
